Underground Economy Study: Half-Billion Dollar Cost to Workers & Local Business

Washington State Institute for Public Policy published their results of the Underground Economy study directed by the WA Legislature, and found an estimated $517 million cost to working families and local business owners.

Big-box RETAILERS are being ALLOWED to bid on construction projects WITHOUT employed construction workers. They are being ALLOWED to convince actual construction workers to fill out 1099 forms and call them “contractors.” Then they are being ALLOWED to send these new “contractors” to do the work…

…for peanuts.

…with no health insurance.

…and no worker protections.
